Karen Cronje is the creator behind Miss La Motte yarns. Most of her life has been spent making things with pointed sticks – pencils, paintbrushes and knitting needles – and discovering the wonderful and surprising world of colour.
Karen holds a MA in Fine Art (Stellenbosch) and is a practicing artist and yarn dyer. Teaching has always been a very big part of her adventure in colour – secondary, tertiary and adult education has added meaning to an enriching and fulfilling experience in creating.
We are delighted that Karen will be hosting a knitting workshop alongside Be Inspired in the Natal Midlands in July.
The following techniques and theory will be covered:
Brief history of colourwork – fair isle, estonian patterns
Colour theory 101 – contrast, value and selecting colours for your colourwork adventures
Patterns – general motifs
Stranded colourwork techniques – two-handed approach, float tension among others
Steeks – discussion of different approaches and techniques and demo
You will receive a mini skein kit of two minis for your colourwork workshop sample.
Kits will be on sale with larger skeins and an exclusive shawl pattern.
Fee includes: tuition, mini skein kit, chart, teas/coffees and cakes
please bring your circular knitting needles (we will have on sale too) 3,5mm
crochet hook 2-3mm
Needlework scissors – sharp and pointy
